Deversoir #8

Les Déversoirs are INTIMISTE artistic events at LE Picardeau, combining performance, film, music and poetry.

November 2025, Viginia Variation a work in progress by Micki Chomicki with Arthur Guillot.

Virginia Variations is based on an installation entitled Virginia, from 2013. This piece powerfully evoked Virginia Woolf’s voluntary disappearance by plunging the writer’s hair in an 800 litter water aquarium, where it floated like a jellyfish with the waves. In the intimate setting of Le Picadeau, the audience discovered the video form the piece Virginia, while Micki Chomicki before our very eyes brought to life again this same hairpiece, once plunged in deathly water, rearranging it into new work. Meanwhile the voice of Arthur Guillot carried the public into the poetic, avant-garde, and feminist world of Virginia Woolf. This Déversoirs followed the opening of Micki Chomicki’s installation, The Fall at the Château-Musée, presented by the Cultural Department of Nemours. In the setting of the oratory, the artist reconnects with her approach to the gravity of hair.

Visual artist Micki Chomicki explores hair as an essential medium in her installations and pieces. She explores that very human matter, its infinite source of inspiration and magical properties, shedding light on the subtleties of its underlying meanings. Drowned, painted, burned, woven, plastered, transparent or amalgamated, hair fiber expresses a conceptual language in her works that defy the codes of aesthetics. By repurposing this symbolically charged material, Micki Chomicki creates tension between the living and the artificial, the intimate and the collective, offering a reflection on bodily memory and the construction of self through matter.
