IN SITU
In Situ accompanies an artist for the production of a new work.
Cécile Beau, explores the local prehistorical heritage, to imagine an new installation.

The Fondazione has invited Cécile Beau for the research and production residency In Situ. She immersed herself in the rich cultural heritage of southern Seine-et-Marne to enrich her artistic practice. Her work explores phenomena that are too slow, too distant, or too subtle for the human timescale, as a matter of fact prehistory was always a source of interest.
During a first time of research in February, she discovered the local prehistoric heritage. A guided tour at the Museum of Prehistory of Nemours and an exploration of engraved rock shelters in the forest, led by a member of Gersar (a group dedicated to the study, research, and preservation of rock art in the Fontainebleau forest.), allowed her to get a deeper understanding of the artefacts from the Mesolithic visible in the region.
In may, she is prolongs her exploration of the mysteries of the parietal art untangled with the peculiar geological rock chaos in the forest. This all setting of boulders, trees ans rivers together with the human imprints from different eras, deeply connects with her artistic interests. The residency thus becomes a chance for her to investigate into it, accompanied with specialists of the themes.
A part of Cécile Beau’s research will be presented in the oratory of Nemours’s castle. She envisions a visual and sound installation through which she aims to weave together different layers of time, space, and matter within the unique medieval architecture of the former chapel at the Château de Nemours.
Composed of installations in which sound, image, and object are closely intertwined, Cécile Beau’s creates a minimalist, sensory body of work that takes nature and the cosmos as its subject of study and contemplation. She creates hybrids that does not offer pre-established scenarios but rather suggests paths along which the viewer can wander at will. Cécile Beau is a graduate of the Écoles des Beaux-Arts in Tarbes and Marseille, as well as Le Fresnoy, the national studio in Tourcoing. She has participated in several artist residencies and group exhibitions in France and abroad (Moca Shenzhen in China, the Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, and the Palais de Tokyo). Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Galerie 22,48m² in Paris and the Abbaye de Maubuisson. Her work was recognized at the Salon de Montrouge with the Roger Pailhas Prize, among others.
